Portfolio Piece 5: Writer's Brief

Where the Story Bible is there to dictate the hard facts of the Red Dwarf universe, such as "who's who" and "where can they go?", the writer's brief is designed to inform the writer of the tone of the show. The purpose of this is also to prevent continuity errors, as fans of the show would immediately notice if their favourite character's personality had shifted dramatically and made them unpredictable. This is especially true in Red Dwarf, where the characters fall into their niches so well that meeting their alter egos is often completely debilitating for them.
